Why Roaming with Rhett Exists (and Why I Keep Going Outside)
Roaming with Rhett didn’t start as a brand, a channel, or a business idea.
It started as a need to breathe.
For a long time, life felt loud. Work, responsibility, expectations, the constant background noise of having to be switched on. Somewhere in there, I realised I was spending a lot of time surviving… and not much time actually living.
So I started leaving the house more.
Not in a dramatic “sell everything and let's go live in a van” way. Just small escapes. One night away. A campsite an hour from home. Cheeky overnight layovers with Elle. Sitting in the car while it rains, questioning my choices, but also feeling weirdly calm.
That’s where Roaming with Rhett was born.
It’s Not About Being Hardcore
Let’s clear something up: I am not an extreme adventurer. (Yet!)
I don’t climb cliffs before breakfast or thrive on discomfort. I love a good coffee. I enjoy being warm. I have very real, very irrational fears about long drop toilets and the things that might live in them.
Roaming with Rhett isn’t about doing the wildest thing possible.
It’s about proving that you don’t need to be fearless, ultra-fit, or wildly experienced to get outside and feel better for it.
Sometimes roaming looks like a day hike. Or a random cruise. A layover with Elle.
Sometimes it looks like car camping with the fur babies or bikepacking.
Sometimes it looks like sitting in the back of a 4WD while the weather turns to absolute rubbish.
And all of it counts.
The Mental Health Piece (Without the Buzzwords)
Being outdoors does something important for me: it turns the volume down.
There’s less noise, fewer expectations, and no pressure to be productive. Out there, it’s enough just to exist. To cook a simple meal. To walk. To sleep. To wake up and feel like yourself again.
I’ve had periods where training, routine, and structure saved me.
I’ve had other periods where they nearly crushed me.
Roaming gives me balance.
It reminds me that rest isn’t weakness, slowing down isn’t failure, and disconnecting is sometimes the most productive thing you can do.
Why Share It At All?
Honestly? Because I wish I’d seen this kind of content earlier.
Not perfectly curated adventure highlight reels, but real trips. Real doubts. Real moments of “why am I doing this?” followed by “oh… that’s why.”
If even one person watches, reads, or stumbles across Roaming with Rhett and thinks:
“Maybe I don’t have to wait until I’m braver, fitter, or better prepared” then it’s worth it.
You don’t need to go far.
You don’t need fancy gear.
You don’t need to know what you’re doing.
You just need to start.
So That’s the Why
Roaming with Rhett exists to make the outdoors feel less intimidating and more human.
It’s for the people who want space.
For the people rebuilding themselves.
For the ones who love adventure but also love a solid Plan B.
For anyone who’s a little nervous… and goes anyway.
And yes, I’ll still complain about the weather.
And yes, I’ll still be terrified of every noise during the night.
And no, I still don’t trust whatever lives in the long drop.
